Thanksgiving in Tokyo

Luckily, we had our friend Reena here visiting over Thanksgiving. Lucky for us, as she carted along a full Tofurkey dinner in her suitcase AND she helped me roast a chicken too!

Here's the carnage: Tofurkey to the left and chicken to the right. I was glad that Aaron, the now devout and somewhat haughty vegetarian, allowed us to have both slabs of "meat" on the same carving board.

I've roasted many a Tofurkey, but this was the first time I had roasted a chicken--it turned out just fine.

Dressing and green beans...the usual Thanksgiving fare.

Of course, Rhett's favorite dish was the mashed potatoes.

We invited Miyuki and her family for Thanksgiving. She had never had a Thanksgiving dinner and didn't know quite what to expect. At the beginning I could tell she was a little leery of the food, taking minute portions of everything. She had never had dressing, cranberry sauce, gravy, nor pumpkin pie...she quickly became a convert. She said her favorite thing was the gravy and rolls, a woman after my own heart.

Thank you Reena for making the meal come together perfectly. It's not every day we have a house guest that also is an incredible chef.

By the end of the meal, Rhett was tucked into bed. Mia stayed up as long as she could. A good Thanksgiving had by all. We certainly missed being with our extended family and friends. We are thankful for you.
