O Yaki Imo !!!

Last Thursday Mia went to school per usual. That day she was astonished to find a huge bonfire ablaze in playground! No, it wasn't a bizarre Japanese fire drill...it was time for "yaki imo." Each fall her school lets the kids grill sweet potatoes to eat in their obento (lunch box).






The kids line up and choose their sweet potato. Mia thought it looked like a Pinocchio nose...

as did her friend Alex...

Then you wrap the "imo" in wet newspaper...

...followed by tin foil

Then you put it in a small milk carton, and throw it on the fire. Voila! By lunch time you have a freshly roasted sweet potato.

Just another little view into Mia's fun at school. There are also street vendors that drive through neighborhoods selling o yaki imo this time of year.
