Third time's a charm!!! Happoen Garden.

Grandpa Bert is in town for his 3rd visit to Tokyo. Today we went to Happoen Garden. Happoen means "beautiful from any angle". It certainly lives up to it's name. Here's Grandpa Bert in front of a 13 tiered stone pagoda that remained unharmed after the 1923 Great Kanto earthquake---estimated to have had a magnitude between 7.9 and 8.4 on the Richter scale.

Happoen also has an extensive bonsai garden, with some trees over 500 years old. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonsai

The garden surrounds an extensive coy pond.

This was our refuge when it started raining.

A refugee...

We finished off our garden stroll with matcha and okashi (green tea and Japanese sweets), served by delightful ladies in kimono.
A perfect rainy day in Tokyo.
