Miyuki Yasuda, or Yasuda-san took us to try ramen. Ramen eating seems to be a Japanese past time. Everyone loves ramen. This is not the freeze-dried Cup-O-Noodles that you get in the States. This was the real thing. Here's Travis (with Miyuki in the background) about to take the ramen plunge. Fresh egg noodles, succulent sliced pork in a soy broth...what's not to like? Yasuda-san gave us some cultural pointers about how to eat ramen. One must slurp loudly when eating ramen. One can even burp loudly afterwards, but please, no flatulence (she really did tell us this).
We both joined the clean bowl club and lived to tell the tale.
Japanese restaurants have these flags at their doors. Raman ga dai suki, Japanese for We love ramen!

No flatulence?? Those Japanese social mores are so conservative.
