Tokyo Disneyland---two thumbs up from Mia !

DISCLAIMER: This blog entry should only be read by the grandparents---you know who you are. Be forewarned that it contains gooey, syrupy, princessy, Disney Corporate snapshots. This is sweeter than aspartame. Feel free to turn back now, no offense taken.

One of the last trips we did with cousin Travis was go to Tokyo Disneyland. Mia's pal from school Maiyu and her mom Asa joined us.

Mia and Maiyu enjoyed the rides and the parades. They absolutely loved meeting the Disney characters. Mia couldn't stop smiling from ear to ear. For those of you who are not well versed in the dwarves, this is Dopey.

We were there from 9:30am until 6pm. As we were walking out of the park, we chanced upon all of the princesses and their princes. You cannot imagine the look on Mia's face. To quote Aaron, "Mia was completely transported." This was a 4 year old girl's dream come true. Here's the line up of princesses. We felt very fortunate because earlier in the day, people were standing in line for an hour to get a picture with Winnie the Pooh (rights now owned by Disney). No lines for the princesses and the girls flitted from one to the next.

Snow White above and Belle (Beauty and the Beast) below. All the princesses were American and didn't speak a word of Japanese. I thought that was a little strange, since they are working in Japan and spending the majority of their time with little Japanese people.

A little rap session with Cinderella...

Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) and the girls. Maiyu was so happy that she was with Mia because the princesses took their time talking with the little American girl who could understand them. Maiyu just soaked it all in.

Captain Hook ...

Mr. Schmee...

Mia's all time favorite, Peter Pan. She told him that her grandma is named Wendy too. She tried to help him find his shadow. They ran around searching for it for at least 5 minutes. It was hilarious.

Thanks to the princesses, the trip was unforgettable.

Is it wrong that I want to go there now? Brian will die when he hears that but we do have a little girl . . . . oh well. And yes, I think it's weird (and bad) that the characters don't speak Japanese--it IS in Japan, afterall. Perhaps a word with the Disney Corporation is in order . . . .

how many trips to Tokyo Disneyland before you guys just drop your guest off with Mia and say 'have at it!'? ;-) Natch - i want to go with the kids, twice as much fun with them (and also because i just can't admit that i want to go anyway - and i have no kids...).

I went to Tokyo Disneyland back in the early 80's right after it opened. I remember it as quite small and hardly anyone spoke English. I don't recall there were princesses at all. The most vivid impression was the Enchanted Tiki Room. Didn't understand a word, except for all the tikis singing, "Tiki, tiki, tiki!"
