Yoko No-No: Meji Jingu Gaien Ice Skating

Yesterday was a holiday here in Japan, "Coming of Age Day" to be exact. Since the kids were off from school, Miyuki and I decided to take them ice skating. Her son Ko-chan had never been skating before. Here are Miyuki and Ko-chan getting their balance on ice skates.

Mia, being Mia, refused to hold anyones hand. She fell like mad for the first 15 minutes and then miraculously was able to skate by herself. I was so proud of her.

Here she is on the left in her rainbow sweater and wet buns.

There just happened to be another girl from Mia's school there, Monet-chan. Monet-chan is a year younger, but already an accomplished ice skater. They loved skating together, falling, picking each other off the ground, laughing, and racing.
