Co Do Hue Water Puppetry Theatre

Our last night in Hue, we took the kids to see the water puppets. We took a rickshaw to get there---Mia and Rhett's favorite form of transportation. Since water puppets exist only in Vietnam, we thought we should give the kids a cultural experience that they could relate to.

The stage consists of a small pond with green screens in the background.

The puppeteers manipulate the puppets via underwater poles and pulleys to make them move. The different acts portray daily scenes in Vietnamese life, as well as local mythical creatures and gods.

A farmer working in the fields during the harvest festival.

The fairy named Tay Vuong Mau, training her disciples to dance in the Kingdom of the Immortals---where joy and spring prevail.

After the performance, the puppeteers came out for a bow. As you can see, they were as wet as the puppets.

We thoroughly enjoyed the water puppets, it was truly original.
