Cooking Class at Cafe 96

http://www.hoian.co.uk/cafe96.php

We had ourselves a fine time learning a little of the local cuisine. Cafe 96 was a highly recommended cooking class destination, due to it's authentic Vietnamese recipes.

Four of us took the class. Aaron and I and two youngins in their 20s. Luckily for us, the owner named Bup, tailored the class to be vegetarian. We chopped...

Our menu was green papaya salad with tofu, spicy sauteed eggplant, and steamed veggie spring rolls. The youngins had the same menu but instead of eggplant, they made mackerel grilled in banana leaves.

Aaron skinning a grilled eggplant.

Back to those banana leaves, here's Aaron heating one up on the gas burner.

Once it turns a deep green, you are ready to wrap your fish in it and toss it on the barbeque.

Bup served us all a tiny cup of local brandy at the end of class. Kind of tasted like brown sugar water. Not too bad at all.

Afterwards we walked around the old town and took in the sights of the handmade lanterns and then went to a coffee shop. A nice evening!
