Yakushima--Day Four

On our last day we needed to board the ferry by noon. We had just enough time to go to Shitoko Gajumaru Banyan Garden. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banyan

We tried to go to a lighthouse. By accident, we found this seaside shrine instead.

Miyuki and I were completely amazed by this hidden shrine. You cannot find it in any of the guide books. It's a shrine erected by the local fishermen in hopes of a bountiful catch.

The shrine itself is sandwiched between crags in a deep cave.

The view of the sea from the shrine.

Once back on mainland Japan, we happened across this restaurant. "Bikkuri Donky" translates into "Surprised Donkey". I thought it was one of the most disturbing names of a restaurant that I'd ever come across. Here I'm trying to look like a surprised donkey myself...hee haw!
