Akihabara's Electric Town

Akihabara neighborhood is the hub of electronics in Tokyo. You can find cell phones, computers, basically anything that runs on electricity here...and at a reduced price. Travis & I window shopped and found some great high-tech phones that we would love to have. They put the American cell phones to shame, they make them look like a kids LEGO phone. Everyone here does text messaging, from little kids to the more mature audience. You are not allowed to talk on your cell phone while using public transportation. I must admit, I love this policy. On subways, trains and buses you see people text messaging like mad. On the subway home from Akihabara we sat next to an 80 year old gentleman who was text messaging. Not something you see too often in the United States. Hmmmm, maybe I should get my grandmas text messaging phones for the holidays...

No surprise, I fell in love with the teeny-tiny Hello Kitty phone. Here they call her "Kitty Chan".

Along with electronics, Akihabara had video games galore. Here's Travis playing a drumming game. Since he does percussion in band, he was a natural.

Pachinko seems to be everyone's past time here. It is basically the Japanese version of pinball mixed with gambling. No, I didn't take my cousin gambling...we were just looking!

To end our visit to "Electric Town", we had conveyor belt sushi. It was all "sashimi" or raw fish.

Travis was a good sport and tried quite a bit. Tuna down the hatch for Travis!

We found light sabers at a curio shop and couldn't resist.
