Health food---Japanese style

Once a month there is a mother's meeting at Mia's kindergarten. You meet with the other mom's in your kid's class. This month we had a speaker about healthy food. The speaker was a woman in her 80's who is renowned for healthy cooking. You can tell she practices what she preaches, the woman looked 50 years old! Afterwards we had lunch that she and her crew had prepared. Here you'll see brown rice, carrot jelly, carrot greens, daikon radish, Japanese pickles, wheat gluten patties, mushrooms, etc. Her main message was to eat fresh, non-processed foods, preferably from your own garden. She touted the importance of eating brown rice versus white rice. I've actually been looking for brown rice and haven't found any yet. I'll try again today. Supposedly there is a vegetarian health food restaurant/grocery store near our home. Wish me luck!

At lunch the mom's and kids shared a plate of the healthy food. It was delicious. We were told the day before to bring our own cup and chopsticks. We ate on paper plates and had to bring them home to deposit them in our own trash. Whenever we have lunch at the school, we must bring all refuse home. To enforce this, there are no garbage cans in or around the school.

Let me know if you're still having a problem finding brown rice. I'd be DELIGHTED to dip into Wendy's larder for you. Hope Pappa-san had a fine time in Seattle.
