Mom's Bonnen Kai

Bonnen Kai means Year's End Party. In December, all of Japan goes wild with these parties. It's normal to attend as many as ten or more of these gatherings during the holidays. I hosted a bonnen kai for some of the mothers I met through Mia's youchien (kindergarten).

Elena, a mother from Ukraine made us borscht from scratch. It was delicious.

We were all so happy to be together and celebrate the year's end. Here's Asa, Tomoe and Fumiyo (left to right).

Back: Tomoe, Elena, Mekari
Front: Noriko and Harada-san.

After kindergarden ends in March, many of our kids are going to separate elementary schools...this was our final hurrah together as Matsumura Youchien moms.

Happy Holidays!
