Christmas Eve in Hoi An

Mia and Rhett picked out their own clothes for the Christmas Eve Party at our hotel. I think they looked dazzling, to say the least.

The party had a buffet and a series of different local acts. Santa started it off with a popular Vietnamese love song.

Next was a woman performing a Cham dance. The Cham people are an ethnic group in Southeast Asia (mostly Cambodia, Vietnam and Malaysia). Cham are remnants of the Kingdom of Champa (7th to 15th centuries---they are the ones who sacked Angkor Wat in 1177). All of the dances we saw that evening were traditional Cham dances.

Aaron and Rhett getting excited by the Cham dancer...

Next the Cham "water carrier" dance. The dancer didn't drop her water vessel once!

The program lasted until 10pm, including a group of drunk Russians singing national anthems, and a full-on disco dance party at the end. Mia and Rhett loved all the activity. Merry Christmas 2008!

Merry (late) Christmas 2008 to you all. Your little munchkins look like little dolls.
