Bartlett Bears---beware!

Who is this person holding my be-goggled son, Rhett?

Why, it's my dear friend D'Arcy Owen, whom I hadn't seen in 19 years.

Here's his account of how we bumped into each other:

On Thursday night (I believe), November 6, I was in Miyazaki and Tiffany emailed me through Facebook wondering if I was the same D'Arcy Owen that she had not been in touch with for 19 years. In her email she said she was living in Tokyo.

I emailed back about 15 minutes later and said that it was me and that I would be arriving in Tokyo on Saturday night. So we went out on Monday night and did very well for ourselves for a Monday night. It was really fun.

Here's my account:

D'Arcy & I went to Bartlett High School together. His mom moved to Florida shortly after he graduated and we lost touch. Now he's living in Portland, OR and is married to a Japanese woman and they have a three year old daughter. He taught English in Japan for three years. He owns a language school, which teaches English to foreign students. He and his family happened to be visiting relatives in Japan when I found him via Facebook. A few days later, we were having dinner together in Tokyo! Talk about coincidences and good karma! I've been trying to track him down for years, and then all the sudden we reconnect and have dinner together in Tokyo?!? Chotto hen, desu ne? Guzen desu yo!

Here are two things he missed about Japanese cuisine, pizza potato chips and Milky brand toffees.
